If you’ve lived in the Austin/Central Texas area for any length of time, you may have noticed that water is a hot topic among your friends and neighbors. Whether we’re talking about lake levels, droughts, dams, lake levels, the abundance or lack of rain, or lake levels (the most common topic if you haven’t yet discovered this), this water talk is important to our community.
Crystal Clear Pools and Spas supports the Central Texas Water Coalition (CTWC) because we believe in its mission, values, and goals for our area. If you haven’t heard of CTWC, we want to bring their name to the forefront and share our passion for this important organization with you.
The Central Texas Water Coalition is a nonprofit organization advocating for policies that will preserve the Highland Lakes (Lake Buchanan, Inks Lake, Lake LBJ, Lake Marble Falls, Lake Travis and Lake Austin) as irreplaceable natural resources that supply water for Central Texas’ 2 million residents and provide an important regional economic engine for the state of Texas.
Past water management policies that failed to factor in drought severity and its economic impact on local communities made the problem worse. Policies still include a huge price disparity among water customers that does little to encourage conservation among large agricultural users.
Changing times require a change in practice and policy. The Central Texas Water Coalition (CTWC) advocates for responsible water management policies, equitable pricing and greater conservation by all.
CTWC’s MISSION STATEMENT

CTWC will bring together concerned individuals and groups to constructively address water issues of the Lower Colorado River Basin. CTWC’s primary mission is to advocate for the preservation and conservation of the Highland Lakes’ water supply and water levels for the benefit of human health, safety, and recreation, and to preserve the Highland Lakes’ role as an irreplaceable economic engine for the State of Texas. Tourism has taken a front seat in driving the economy of the Highland Lakes’ counties. Hundreds of thousands come to Burnet, Llano and Travis counties each year, taking advantage of the excellent boating, fishing, camping, cabins, lodges, Inns, spas, and dining opportunities. CTWC’s intent is to assist in all regional efforts to market the Highland Lakes, our most precious natural resource, as a tourism destination, directly impacting and increasing our economies.

Since its formation in 2011, CTWC has been working to:
- Ensure continued economic viability for the Highland Lakes region through the protection of drinking water supplies and the tourism industry.
- Identify and encourage policies and practices that will protect the lakes and the environment as precious and endangered natural resources.
- Build support for a consensus-based Water Management Plan to govern LCRA’s management of surface water under its state-issued water rights.
- Foster smart water use and conservation throughout the Lower Colorado River Basin.
- Promote the transparency and accountability of all water-related agencies or bodies.
- Identify and promote the development of new water supply resources.
- Encourage all agriculture producers to use the best available technology to increase water efficiency and reduce overall water use.
