18 Sep 5 Fun Facts About Swimming and Swimming Pools
Swimming pools have served many purposes throughout the years. Whether used as an escape from the heat, a way to create community, or for exercise, swimming pools have become a staple in our lives (and especially the lives of Crystal Clear Pools and Spas’ customers and team members). We think about servicing, cleaning, maintaining, renovating, and building swimming pools all day every day and it’s fun to get outside of the details and consider some random and fun facts – here are some of our favorite FUN FACTS ABOUT SWIMMING POOLS.
Fun Fact #1: The First Swimming Pool Was Built in Pakistan
The “Great Bath” at the site of Mohenjo-Daro in modern-day Pakistan was most likely the first swimming pool, dug during the 3rd millennium BC. This pool is 12 by 7 metres (39 by 23 feet), is lined with bricks, and was covered with a tar-based sealant.

The modern Olympic Games started in 1896 and included swimming races, after which the popularity of swimming pools began to spread.
Fun Fact #4: Home Swimming Pools Became Popular Because of Hollywood

Fun Fact #5: The Largest Heated Indoor Swimming Pool in the US Used Kayaks Manned by Lifeguards
The Fleishhacker Pool in San Francisco was the largest heated outdoor swimming pool in the United States. Opened on 23 April 1925, it measured 1,000 by 150 ft (300 by 50 m) and was so large that the lifeguards required kayaks for patrol. It was closed in 1971 due to low patronage.
We love fun and we love facts! The purpose of this post is to share “fun facts” that should be used solely as a means for entertainment, not comprehensive accuracy (although we got this great info from Wikipedia). We would be thrilled to hear from you in the comments about any fun facts you think we should include in future social media and blog posts.
